It’s time to upgrade that old router!

One important piece of computer technology that often gets overlooked when people are looking to upgrade their hardware is the router.  It’s there sitting behind the desk or under a piece of furniture or behind the closet door and is usually out of sight and out of mind.  The router is doing a lot of work sorting your internet traffic and getting it to all of the connected devices in your home.

If you are using a freebie router from your internet provider or one that you bought over 5 years ago, there is a good chance you will benefit from upgrading to better, more modern hardware.  It gets ignored because they often are still working and you don’t think it needs replacing.  Newer routers are capable of providing better wi-fi coverage and stronger signals.  If your router router is using wireless G or even wireless N technology you are behind the latest wireless 802.11ac standard.  Newer routers use 2 bandwiths to connect, the older 2.4ghz and the 5Ghz bandwith.   5Ghz bandwith has less interference from many other devices like security devices and cordless phones.  They also come with more radios that spread out the traffic from TV’s, laptops, gaming consoles, Netflix, tablets, phones, and other things that may be connected.  This results in less congestion and stuttering in videos and other network traffic that you may be experiencing.

If you are looking for a quick upgrade to your network performance, consider a new premium router.  Need help setting it up?  Give us a call 336-260-0664.
